The Current State and Future Directions of Modeling Thermosphere Density Enhancements During Extreme Magnetic Storms

چکیده

Satellites, crewed spacecraft and stations in low-Earth orbit (LEO) are very sensitive to atmospheric drag. A satellite’s lifetime orbital tracking become increasingly inaccurate or uncertain during magnetic storms. Given the planned increase of government private satellite presence LEO, need for accurate density predictions collision avoidance optimization, particularly extreme events, has an urgent matter requires comprehensive international collaboration. Additionally, long-term solar activity models historical data suggest that will significantly following years decades. In this article, we briefly summarize main achievements research thermosphere response storms occurring after launching many satellites with state-of-the-art accelerometers from which high-accuracy can be determined. We find performance empirical model assimilation is higher than its without all storm phases. discuss how forecasting improved by looking into two directions: first, past, adapting datasets predictions, second, future, facilitating large-scale sets collected future events. Therefore, topic relevant scientific community, agencies operate satellites, sector assets operating LEO.

Software for the analysis of extreme events: The current state and future directions

The last few years have seen a significant increase in publicly available software specifically targeted to the analysis of extreme values. This reflects the increase in the use of extreme value methodology by the general statistical community. The software that is available for the analysis of extremes has evolved in essentially independent units, with most forming extensions of larger softwar...

Modeling magnetospheric current response to solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements during magnetic storms: 2. Application to different storm phases

[1] Two patterns of ground H perturbation as response to pressure enhancements during different phases of storms are found. One is polarity asymmetry under southward IMF Bz, e.g., 25 September 1998, 29 May 2003, and 10 January 1997 events; the other is positive H perturbation everywhere under northward IMF Bz, e.g., 7 November 2000 event. The polarity asymmetry can be further divided into two c...

The Current State and the Future Directions in Air Quality Modeling

In this paper the present "state\ of air quality modeling (as viewed by the authors) is presented. The focus of the paper will be on the "current\ state-of-aaairs. Due to limitation of space (and the focus of this Dagstuhl Seminar) the discussion will focus on only a few aspects of air quality modeling: i.e., chemical integration, sensitivity analisys and computational framework.

The Electric Current-systems of Magnetic Storms

1. This paper continues my discussion of the average characteristics of the field of geomagnetic disturbances or storms, given in two previous papers • which will be referred to as I and 2; the irregular part of magnetic disturbance is not considered. A condensed representation of the main average features of magnetic storms is given in 1 (pp. 61-72) and 2 (pp. 242-264), and evidence is describ...
